7days/6nights

Experience the history and the traditional way of life with the anishinaabe people of Rainy River First Nation. Explore the traditional homelands of this ojibway tribe in the beautiful boreal forest along the majestic Rainy River and Lake of the Woods.

Friday - Day 1
  • Drive to Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung and set up camping (tipi lodge on site or rough camping)
  • Lunch in Hungry Hall & orientation of planned events
  • Guided tour of interpretative centre, Roundhouse and the historic Manitou Mounds
  • Free time self-guided exploration on walking trails, wildlife viewing
  • Traditional evening meal at Roundhouse
  • Elder teachings & storytelling at Roundhouse
Saturday - Day 2
  • Sunrise ceremony with local elders
  • Breakfast at Roundhouse
  • Traditional Handiwork Class – Session One: choose between beading, leatherwork, birchbark baskets, pottery reproduction, or flint knapping
  • Lunch at Hungry Hall
  • Travel to First Nation community for guided tour including Manitou Rapids, return trip by boat on Rainy River
  • Prepare evening meal at campfire with guide & enjoy traditional drum/dance exhibition at the roundhouse or guided travel to local powwow for evening feast
Sunday - Day 3
  • Brunch at Hungry Hall
  • Traditional Handiwork Class – Session Two: completion of selected crafts
  • Explore area – suggested activities available
  • Evening meal at Hungry Hall
  • Elders teachings & storytelling at Roundhouse or return to local powwow with guide
Monday - Day 4
  • Clean up camp and breakfast at Hungry Hall
  • Drive to Nestor Falls or Morson and boat to King Island Lodge on Lake of the Woods
  • Stay in a modern lakeside log or knotty pine cabin
  • Map, Canoe/kayak and boat orientation
  • Relax for the afternoon and explore on your own
  • Lunch & dinner in lodge dining room
Tuesday - Day 5
  • Guided boat trip to painted rock pictographs
  • Enjoy a shore lunch prepared by your guide
  • Hike, kayak, explore & see the unique meeting of the two distinct eco-systems and the richness of wildlife
  • Breakfast & dinner in lodge dining room
Wednesday - Day 6
  • Self guided canoe/kayak of a wild rice marsh (hay bay) or a self guided beaver pond hike for wildlife photography
  • Breakfast & dinner in lodge dining room
  • Box lunch
Thursday - Day 7

Depart from king island by boat 9am after breakfast
