3 Days/2 Nights
Learn First Nation history and culture through first-hand experience and teachings from the original peoples of the long rapids.
Friday - Day 1
- Drive to Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung (www.kaynahchiwahnung.com) and set up camping (tipi lodge on site, rough camping, local hotel accommodations)
- Lunch in Hungry Hall & orientation of planned events
- Guided tour of interpretative centre, Roundhouse and the historic Manitou Mounds
- Free time self-guided exploration on walking trails, wildlife viewing
- Traditional evening meal at Roundhouse
- Elder teachings & storytelling at Roundhouse
Saturday - Day 2
- Sunrise ceremony with local elders
- Breakfast at Roundhouse
- Traditional Handiwork Class Session One: choose between beading, leatherwork, birchbark baskets, pottery reproduction, or flint knapping
- Lunch at Hungry Hall
- Travel to First Nation community for guided tour including Manitou Rapids, return trip by boat on Rainy River
- Prepare evening meal at campfire with guide & enjoy traditional drum/dance exhibition at the roundhouse or guided travel to local powwow for evening feast
Sunday - Day 3
- Brunch at Hungry Hall
- Traditional Handiwork Class Session Two: completion of selected crafts
- Clean up camp, box lunch, depart
