Place of the Long Rapids Package
3 Days/2 Nights

Learn First Nation history and culture through first-hand experience and teachings from the original peoples of the long rapids.

Friday - Day 1
  • Drive to Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung (www.kaynahchiwahnung.com) and set up camping (tipi lodge on site, rough camping, local hotel accommodations)
  • Lunch in Hungry Hall & orientation of planned events
  • Guided tour of interpretative centre, Roundhouse and the historic Manitou Mounds
  • Free time self-guided exploration on walking trails, wildlife viewing
  • Traditional evening meal at Roundhouse
  • Elder teachings & storytelling at Roundhouse
Saturday - Day 2
  • Sunrise ceremony with local elders
  • Breakfast at Roundhouse
  • Traditional Handiwork Class – Session One: choose between beading, leatherwork, birchbark baskets, pottery reproduction, or flint knapping
  • Lunch at Hungry Hall
  • Travel to First Nation community for guided tour including Manitou Rapids, return trip by boat on Rainy River
  • Prepare evening meal at campfire with guide & enjoy traditional drum/dance exhibition at the roundhouse or guided travel to local powwow for evening feast
Sunday - Day 3
  • Brunch at Hungry Hall
  • Traditional Handiwork Class – Session Two: completion of selected crafts
  • Clean up camp, box lunch, depart
