Welcome!

Boozhoo! We’re excited about your visit to the Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre. You are about to explore 8,000 years of Anishnaabe history. We’re positive you’ll find all aspects of your visit intriguing and interesting.

In our Interpretative Centre, you can explore galleries which tell a story of Rainy River history. Other visitor services include a scenic river-view, full-service restaurant that specializes in authentic Ojibway and traditional cuisine, and a gift shop that features hand-made native crafts, artwork, literature, and a full line of clothing apparel. Throughout the year we periodically offer special events in the Visitor’s centre such as traditional craft demonstrations, Aboriginal games and archaeology workshops.

On your visit to Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre, our trails will guide you through history where you will eventually come to one of Canada’s National Historic Sites, the Manitou Mounds. These 20 burial mounds are more than 2,000 years old and are the largest existing complex of human made structures in all of Canada. You will find the opportunity to view an Anglican cemetery that dates back to 1873, observe numerous archaeological sites, learn about medicinal plants, and view a traditional Round House building.
