The Long Sault Rapids on the Rainy River are a natural spawning ground for sturgeon and other species of freshwater fish. The sturgeon is perhaps the single most important factor in people gathering at Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung. A single sturgeon, which had potential to weigh over a hundred pounds and be over eighty year old, could feed many people.

The 4000 gallon aquarium in the Visitors Centre features Lake Sturgeon, as well as other species of fish.
