Meeting PlaceLocated only 40 miles from the headwaters of the Mississippi River, this was the centre of a vibrant continent wide trading network.Since time immemorial, people have gathered at the "Place of the Long Rapids". Thousands of years ago, people gathered to harvest sturgeon from the bountiful waters, but in later generations, they gathered to share their stories and bury their loved ones.The concept of a meeting place for great numbers has not been lost. Today, the keepers of Kah-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung, the Rainy River First Nations, invite the rest of the world to meet here. Now we can gather to honor the legacy of the burial mounds, and leave our own mark on the future. |
